"Men give me credit for some genius. All the genius I have lies in this; when I have a subject in hand, I study it profoundly. Day and night it is before me. My mind becomes pervaded with it. Then the effort that I have made is what people are pleased to call the fruit of genius. It is the fruit of labor and thought."

"The purpose of education is to cultivate right relationship, not only between individuals, but also between the individual and society; and that is why it is essential that education should, above all, help the individual to understand his own psychological process. Intelligence lies in understanding oneself and going above and beyond oneself; but there cannot be intelligence as long as there is fear. Fear perverts intelligence and is one of the causes of self-centred action. Discipline may suppress fear but does not eradicate it, and the superficial knowledge which we receive in modern education only further conceals it. When we are young, fear is instilled into most of us both at home and at school. Neither parents nor teachers have the patience, the time or the wisdom to dispel the instinctive fears of childhood, which, as we grow up, dominate our attitudes and judgment and create a great many problems. The right kind of education must take into consideration this question of fear, because fear warps our whole outlook on life. To be without fear is the beginning of wisdom, and only the right kind of education can bring about the freedom from fear in which alone there is deep and creative intelligence."

I am so busy I haven't had time for much of what life can truly offer. It isn't easy being such a conflicted man such as myself is, the only thing to do is embrace, although only to a point.

As anyone reading this shit knows of my love for all things hamiltonian. Alexander Hamilton is a role model for todays society. Here is a man who came out of a life that would have left most to an act of suicide, as his guardian did just that). The society of America then was one that Hamilton did not feel was a healthy one and fought till the end of his life to improve for the embetterment of all mankind. He educated himself and then took action.
Here is an article I picked up online which would be easy to find via a google news search of "alexander hamilton", I smiled reading it.

Scholar: Island roots added to perspective

By Michele Steinbacher
[email protected]

NORMAL -- Alexander Hamilton's role as an outsider separates him from other founding fathers, said one local scholar who plans to retrace the American leader's early years growing up in the Caribbean.
"He was an immigrant. He came from a lower class than the others, too -- he was the illegitimate son of a single mother," said Richard Payne, a politics and government professor at Illinois State University.

Like Hamilton, Payne was born and raised in the Caribbean. He's in the early stages of writing a book on how Hamilton's island character played a role in his development.

Born on the island of Nevis and raised on nearby St. Croix, Hamilton was exposed to ideas that helped form his opinions about centralized government, a strong army, and abolitionism, said Payne, the author of several books who has taught at ISU since 1975.

As a young boy, Hamilton saw powerful European nations vying for the wealthy islands that also had to protect themselves against pirates. This international view led him to see America as a nation needing to defend itself, when many of the other founding fathers were worried about state's rights.

"There would be no U.S. without a national vision," said Payne. "He came from a very cosmopolitan region -- not the provincial life of the colonies known by most of the founders."

As a merchant's apprentice who proved capable at accounting and management at a young age, Hamilton was sent by his employer, Nicholas Cruger, to New Jersey to attend college. But instead of Princeton, Hamilton chose Kings College (now Columbia University) when it agreed to his accelerated study plan.

"He arrived with a very different world view," said Payne, who, as a U.S. immigrant feels a special bond with his subject. "I can relate to that idea of coming from a small place as a young man."

Payne said he really became interested in Hamilton when he took a financial government course as a graduate student at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Payne, who has lived in Normal more than 30 years, keeps a second home on Anguilla, where his mother still lives. This year he'll retrace Hamilton's steps on Nevis and St. Croix.

As a teenager, Hamilton revealed his intellectual abilities with philosophic writings calling for the U.S. colonies to fight Britain. Not long after, he joined the fight.

His ascent in the Continental Army helped cement his place in elite society. And by his mid-20s he was surrounded by the leading minds who framed the foundation of the United States of America.

In Payne's opinion, the two most important founding fathers were George Washington -- who had the respect of the country -- and Hamilton -- who set out how to organize the country.

"The time is always right to do what is right"
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

"Yes the time is now, the present to rectify and resolve all conflicts. Both internally and externally. Meaning those within ourselves and those around us. Leading by example this can happen on a grand scale. People talk about problems all the time but few if any do anything to actually change. Changing oneself automatically changes the world, and it can have a domino effect.

"You are the world, the neighbour, the friend, the so-called enemy. If you would understand, you must first understand yourself, for in you is the root of all understanding. In you is the beginning and the end."
-- Jiddu Krishnamurti
